I know you know the feeling: you’ve successfully finished a huge, complicated deal, or won a massive, many pieces moving, piece of litigation…and then, it’s done. Exhaustion? Sure. Exhilaration? Yes, and sometimes, a strong desire to share. Well, that is how I am feeling now. With the encouragement of many of you, I have just launched a book on business development for lawyers: Daunting to DOable: You CAN Make It Rain, now available at Amazon in paperback and e-book formats. I wrote the book with a very clear purpose in mind—to present an approach, structure, strategy and tools for developing business/relationships, that you can adopt to your own set of circumstances, personality, goals, style, ways of working, etc. Key phrase: “Making Rain is a Small Deal.” I so want you to hear that you CAN bring in clients AND bill. It IS DOable and can even be fun!
The book is very practical, boots-on-the-ground and granular, delivered with a positive, friendly voice (I hope you find it that way). No matter what your level of experience or the size of your law firm, the model presented and suggestions offered can fit for you. If you are inhouse, eliminate the phrase “business development” and replace it with, “relationship development for advancement” and much of what is in the book can guide you too.
The specifics of a national book tour are coming together. Check www.DauntingtoDOable.com to see when we might have a chance to meet face to face.
Please send me examples of what has and hasn’t worked for you with regards to cultivating relationships. I will post the notes about your experiences on the website in the weeks ahead. Learning from each other is the best way to grow. Also, there will be a place for questions and input both from me and you.
I would be honored if you would take a moment and celebrate virtually with me. I want this to be the launch of a fabulous conversation among all of us about ways to make it rain authentically and valuably for all participants in the business development dance.
